Context of Atenas
Atenas (en grego: Αθήνα, tr. "Athína", [aˈθina] (AFI)) é a capital da Grecia e tamén a capital da rexión de Ática. Ademais de ser unha cidade moderna, Atenas tamén é famosa por ter sido unha poderosa cidade-Estado e un centro de cultura moi importante nos tempos antigos.
En grego antigo, Atenas era chamada Athenai (Αθήναι) e, no século XIX, este nome foi retomado formalmente como nome da cidade. Desde o abandono oficial do grego Katharevousa na década de 1970, a forma popular Athina converteuse no nome oficial da cidade.
