Torrent de Colobrers

The torrent of Colobrers, also known as the torrent of la Tosca or torrent de Can Pagès, is a water course in Vallès Occidental. It is one of the most valued spaces in the Sabadell area.

It is about 6 km long. It originates in the Sierra del Vent, in Castellar del Vallès, crosses the Bruguera plain and, entering the Sabadell area, fits into the terrain, forming rugged and steep banks. Almost at the end of the route it passes between Can Garriga and Can Pagès and drains into the Ripoll river near the Castellar bridge.

The water supplied by the stream comes from the source of Can Moragues and also from the different and rich aquifers in the area. Some of this water is captured in a mine and led through underground tunnels, streams and even a small aqueduct. The recipients are still the four owners of the area who distributed it in 1856: the Pagès, the Garriga, the Moragues and the Barata.

The spectacularity of the place is due in part to the plant species, which are exuberant there. Among the hedge vegetation, the vidalba, the ivy, the gorse and the bramble stand out. As for the riparian trees, poplars, elder trees and planted plantains abound, alongside various skeletons of elms affected by a fungal plague. Rushes, sedges, watercress, sedge, ferns, ivy and horsetail are some of the species of riverside that grow the most. The galzeran should be highlighted among the small shrubs in the area. As for the fauna, the robin, the snail, the oriole, the nightingale are frequent. But also the badger, the shrew, the mice and the shrews, alongside the green frog, the wren, the toad, the salamander and the vidriol. However, invertebrates are the most abundant creatures there.

In 1981, this stream suffered an unfortunate fuel oil spill that significantly endangered the area's biodiversity. Finally, the "black tide" was stopped, but the remains of chemical material did not completely disappear until a good ten years later.

In 1991 the Department of Economic Promotion of Sabadell City Council created the La Salut Environmental Workshop School. The young people who worked there dedicated themselves, in part, to cleaning and fixing the Colobrers stream and the Can Moragues fountain and pond. They built footbridges and barred accesses to delimit a single route, with the intention of saving unnecessary erosion. They also published an itinerary.
