< p>Its origin is in the xix century and already exceeds its 200-year history. The elements that most identify the Festa Major de Gràcia are the streets and squares lined up by the neighborhood and the events that take place there for people of all ages. The subjects of the garnishes are very variable and can be grouped into three main sections: criticism or irony on current affairs, exotic and enchanted spaces and the recreation of Barcelona's local history. Apart from the traditional street decoration competition, which gives quite a few prizes, a more recent balcony and portal decoration competition is also organised. It receives an influx of hundreds of thousands of fun-seeking people every year with the cheerful daytime atmosphere and festive raucousness.

The Generalitat de Catalunya declared the festival as a traditional festival of national interest on July 30, 1997 and awarded the Federació Festa Major de Gràcia, the entity brings together the associations and festival commissions of carrer, with the Creu de Sant Jordi in 2012. He also received the 2018 National Culture Award from the National Council for Culture and the Arts.
