The January Festival or the Big Festival of Chiapas is a religious, traditional and popular celebration, in which the entire population of the city of Chiapa de Corzo participates, it takes place annually from January 8 to 23, it is one of the oldest festivals in Chiapas and some historians estimate its pre-Hispanic origins merged with Christianity in the XVII century and others in the XVIII century. . The Parachicos that are part of the celebration were declared on February 16, 2009 as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.[1]u200b
