Estels del Sud
Estels del Sud is a mountain route of 99.2 km and 4200 m of cumulative elevation gain. The route joins in a circular way five refuges of the Natural Park of the Ports, located south of the lower course of the Ebre in the districts of Baix Ebre, Terra Alta, Matarranya, Montsià. It runs almost entirely on mountain paths and tracks, and is classified as a medium-sized route.
The Estels del Sud route crosses the large massif of calcareous material in the Ports Natural Park, which determines a relief abrupt, broken by several faults and a spectacular karst system, with caves, gorges, chasms and holes. You can find, among others, wild goats as well as one of the southernmost beech forests in Europe.
