Passerelle des Deux Rives

( Passerelle Mimram )

The Mimram footbridge or Deux Rives footbridge is a footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists which connects the two parts of the Deux Rives garden located on each side of the Rhine, between the French city of Strasbourg and the German city of Kehl.

It owes its name to Marc Mimram, a Parisian architect who designed other bridges in France. This footbridge is considered a work of modern and contemporary art. Reserved for pedestrians and cyclists, it also allows access for the disabled (the layout makes the footbridge very passable for the latter). A cable-stayed bridge, it is made up of two decks connected in the center by a platform which offers a unique view of the Rhine.

The footbridge is the central element of the Jardin des Deux Rives (in German Garten der zwei Ufer), and is intended to mark the strength of Franco-German exchanges.

During the 2009 NATO summit held in Strasbourg and Kehl, the heads of state led by German Chancellor Angela Merkel met on in the middle of the footbridge where Nicolas Sarkozy, who had arrived on the French side, was waiting for them. An official photo was taken on the bridge and this footbridge appeared stylized on the summit logo.
