The Carrer de Sant Francesc is a pedestrian street in the center of Alicante (Valencian Country) that connects the Portal d'Elx with the Plaça de Calvo Sotelo.
During the last years of the xx century, the street had a gloomy appearance, with a poor state of conservation, and suffered a high level of of public insecurity: street prostitution and illegal businesses run by Maghreb immigrants were common.
