The Carrer de Sant Francesc is a pedestrian street in the center of Alicante (Valencian Country) that connects the Portal d'Elx with the Plaça de Calvo Sotelo.

During the last years of the xx century, the street had a gloomy appearance, with a poor state of conservation, and suffered a high level of of public insecurity: street prostitution and illegal businesses run by Maghreb immigrants were common. Despite the initial controversy (the cost of the investment was around 60,000 euros), the street attracted the attention of tourists and increased the opening of new businesses. Since then, the street has been popularly known as Mushroom Street.
