ისტორია

ჰილიერის ტბა 1802 წელს, მეთიუ ფლაინდერსმა აღმოაჩინა. მის ჟურნალში არსებული ჩანაწერები, ჰილიერის ტბის შესახებ არსებულ პირველ ინფორმაციად ითვლება. ფლაინდერსმა ვარდისფერი ტბა მაშინ შეამჩნია, როდესაც იგი კუნძულის უმაღლეს პიკზე ადიოდა (დღეს მას ფლაინდერსის პიკი ეწოდება)[1]. არსებული ინფორმაციით, ფლაინდერსმა ტბას ჰილიერი მას შემდეგ უწოდა, რაც გამომძიებელი ეკიპაჟის წევრი უილიამ ჰილიერი მიდლ-აილენდიდან გამგზავრებამდე, 1803 წლის 20 მაისს დიზენტერიის შედეგად გარდაიცვალა[2].
