Context of Vietnam

Vietnam (ametliku nimega Vietnami Sotsialistlik Vabariik) on riik Kagu-Aasias Indohiina poolsaare idarannikul. Piirneb Hiina, Laose ja Kambodžaga.

Rohkem kui poole riigi aladest hõlmab tiheda metsaga kaetud Annami mäestik. Tihedama asustusega ja ühtlasi kõige tegusamalt haritavad alad paiknevad Hồng Hà ja Mekongi jõe ääres.

Teise maailmasõja järel oli Vietnam kaheks jagatud, pärast Vietnami sõda (1962–1975) ühendas kommunistlik Põhja-Vietnam riigi taas. Tänapäeval on Vietnam üheparteiline riik, mida juhib kommunistlik partei. Alates 1986. aastast on valitsus järginud liberaalset, doi moi (uuendamise) nimetuse all tuntud majanduspoliitikat.
